Say YES on Fanø



With its beautiful nature and the island life, Fanø is the ideal backdrop for your wedding. The entire Wadden Sea around Fanø has been added to UNESCO's list of world heritage sites in the natural landscapes category.
If you dream of getting married on Fanø, only your imagination sets the limit. You can choose a wedding at Fanø Town Hall, at the old Navigation School, on the beach, at Kikkebjerg or any other place on Fanø. It can also be in your own home or in a holiday home.
International marriages
Before you can get married in Denmark, you must have a certificate of marital status.
A certificate of marital status is documentation that you meet the conditions in the Danish Act on the Formation and Dissolution of Marriage (Marriage Act).
You must apply for a certificate of marital status Agency of Family Law.
You or your partner:
- is not a Danish or Nordic citizen
- do not have permanent residence in Denmark
- do not have a right of permanent residence in Denmark pursuant to the Executive Order on EU Residence

Get married in the Council Chamber at Fanø Town Hall or, weather permitting, in the beautiful courtyard.
Witnesses
If you wish, Fanø Municipality will make witnesses available.
How the wedding takes place
Fanø Municipality's marriage registrar oversees the official wedding ceremony accompanied by a wedding speech. Afterwards, there will be time to exchange rings and take wedding photos. The ceremony ends with the presentation of your marriage certificate.
Fee
There is no fee regarding being married at the Town Hall on the above dates.
Rice, confetti, and artificial flowers
It is forbidden to throw rice, confetti, artificial flowers, etc. in or in front of the Town Hall.

Weddings take place on the third Saturday of each month and on the first Friday of April, May, June, July, August and September. Follow the link for possible wedding dates.

How the wedding takes place
Fanø Municipality's marriage registrar will meet with you at the agreed place and time. After this, the marriage officiant presides over the official marriage ceremony, accompanied by a wedding speech. There is of course time to exchange rings and take wedding photos. The ceremony ends with the presentation of your marriage certificate.
Remember that the weather on Fanø can be harsh - it is therefore always a good idea to have an alternative wedding venue sheltered from rain and wind.
Fee
There is the following fee for weddings on Fanø:
Fee 2025:
- Nordby: DKK 1168
- Fanø Bad and Rindby: DKK 1752
- Sønderho: DKK 1752
The amount is transferred to the municipality's account before the wedding in agreement with the Marriage Office.
Rice, confetti, and artificial flowers
It is forbidden to throw rice, confetti, artificial flowers, release balloons etc. in Fanø's lovely nature.
